Pregnancy is a period where gums are more sensitive and prone to bleeding due to hormonal changes (Pregnancy Gingivitis). Contrary to common belief, dental treatment can be performed during pregnancy and is even mandatory for conditions posing an infection risk.
The safest period for dental treatments is the second trimester (3-6 months) of pregnancy. While non-urgent aesthetic procedures can be postponed until after birth, conditions causing pain and infection, such as root canal treatment, fillings, or tooth extraction, should be performed using safe anesthetics to protect the baby's health (with the approval of the obstetrician). Remember, a dental infection in the mother poses a greater risk to the baby than the stress of treatment.
