Teeth Whitening Methods: In-Office vs. At-Home Kits

Factors such as coffee, tea, smoking, and aging cause teeth to yellow over time. For those desiring a brighter smile, teeth whitening is the most popular aesthetic procedure. There are two main methods:

In-Office (Clinical) Whitening: This method, performed by the dentist in the clinic, takes approximately 1 hour. High-concentration whitening gels are activated with a special laser light. The result is immediate, and the effect is more permanent. Since the gums are protected, sensitivity is minimal.

At-Home Whitening: Your dentist takes impressions of your teeth to prepare custom transparent trays for you. Lower-dose gels are placed inside these trays, and you are asked to wear them for a few hours a day or overnight. The treatment duration lasts 1-2 weeks. It is usually recommended to reinforce in-office whitening.
