When Should Wisdom Teeth Be Extracted?

Wisdom teeth, located at the very back of the mouth and the last to erupt, often remain impacted or emerge problematically because they cannot find enough space in the jaw. However, not every wisdom tooth needs to be extracted. If the tooth has erupted in the correct position, is free of decay, and participates in chewing, it can remain in the mouth.

Situations Requiring Extraction:

  • If it causes severe pain, swelling, and infection (Pericoronitis),
  • If it puts pressure on and damages or decays the adjacent healthy tooth,
  • If it causes cyst or tumor formation,
  • If there is a risk of disrupting orthodontic treatment (braces), it must absolutely be extracted.
