What Is Good for a Toothache? Natural Home Remedies

A sudden toothache starting at night can significantly lower the quality of life. Although the definitive solution for a toothache is to visit a dentist, there are some safe methods you can apply at home to alleviate the pain until your appointment time.

  • Saltwater Rinse: Gargling with a glass of warm water mixed with a teaspoon of salt reduces bacteria in the mouth and relieves edema. It acts as a natural disinfectant.
  • Cold Compress: Applying an ice pack externally (to the cheek) on the painful area constricts blood vessels, reducing inflammation and pain. Be careful to wrap the ice in a towel rather than applying it directly to the skin.
  • Clove Oil: Clove oil, which has a natural anesthetic effect, can be gently applied to the cavity (not the gums) using a cotton ball. Thanks to the substance eugenol, it soothes the nerves.

Warning: Common folk remedies such as applying alcohol or placing aspirin directly on the aching tooth can cause serious burns on the gums and are definitely not recommended.
